# Adding Fractions With Different Denominators

## Description

To add and subtract fractions with different denominators students are taught to use equivalent fractions to find a common denominator. As learning progresses numerical methods are used to find the lowest common multiple of the two fractions. Completing fraction pyramids give the class an opportunity to consolidate and apply their learning.

The start of the lesson is used to recap problem solving with fractions of the same denominator.

To show progress the plenary challenges students to solve a similar problem given at the start but this time with different denominators.
